It's tough to buy without personal consultation, so please feel free to e-mail your concerns to mike@thebackcountry.net or call our stores for specific expertise.
We want feedback! Don't see it on our website? No problem, we either have it, can order it, or will recommend another retailer. Our goal is to provide the closest thing to an in-store visit.
Please remember - We are not the mass merchant. We don't look for closeouts, but rather sell the hot products that work best. Our prices are competitive, but we aim to win your business with our service. We try to keep our webstore product availability updated, but it's not 100%.

If your selection is un-available, we will contact you immediately with an estimated arrival date, and alternative choices. Your card will not be charged until you agree to any change in your order.

Shipping
FREE SHIPPING applies to items that meet 3 criteria. They are not on sale, They cost more than $50, and they are not considered "oversized" by Fed Ex standards. FREE SHIPPING is only available within the lower 48 states. Non-oversized Products that are on sale and/or under $50 ship for $5 per item. Products that are considered oversized by Fed EX will appear in your shopping cart with shipping charges. For example, bikes are $70 to ship within the lower 48. Skis are $30. Shipping insurance is always included.
We offer competitive shipping rates and carefully pack your items. We ship Fed Ex, who seems to have the best service and prices. Don't hesitate to call in your order if you have any shipping concerns or questions.

International Orders
Our website does not process orders if you live outside the lower 48 States. If you live in Hawaii, Alaska, or another country, please call in your order at 530-582-0909, or e-mail mike@thebackcountry.net. We want your business! We will give you a competitive shipping quote right away.
Customers are responsible for any taxes or duties imposed by your country upon arrival. We can not estimate what such costs might be if any.

Mike's Wintersports Discount Club Details
NEW! Earn extra discounts and learn about special promotions by qualifying for a FREE Mike's Club Membership. To become a member, all you need to do is spend $500 at one time on Wintersports products. You will receive 10% off all non-sale merchandise. Not only that, but you will actually receive 10% off in our store all the time (bike sales excluded). Club members will enjoy some private discounts and promotions as well.
Mike's Wintersports Discount Club is not available on our website. You can shop there, but you will have to call in your order to 888-625-8444.
The discount will not be combined with other offers or sales. MIke's Club members must stay subscribed to our monthly e-newsletter, and provide a mailing address upon signing up. We do not share this information! Mike's Club membership is not always automatic. Ask to be signed up when you make your qualifying order.
New Bicycle Purchase Service Contract
When you purchase a new bicycle from The Back Country or Tahoe City Bikes, we will tune up your bike for free all season (until the snow covers the trails). Overhaul work, bike cleaning, and new component installation labor is not free. Ask for a copy of our detailed Bike Tune-up Detail, or take a glance at it on the counter in either store.
Return Policy
Goods purchased in the store can be exchanged for a full refund within 2 weeks, or store credit if returned within 30 days.
For internet returns, you must call our customer service department at 1-888-625-8444 with 10 days of receiving the merchandise. There will be no return consideration if you call after this time period, or ship the item back without calling. When you call, We will issue you a return authorization number (R.A.#), to clearly print on the outside of the box. Domestic customers can call toll-free at 1-888-625-8444. International customers must call 530-582-0909. Customer service hours are 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday thru Friday, Pacific Standard Time.
You can only return merchandise that is in the exact, un-used condition as received. We do not accept returns of perishable food items, climbing equipment, or water filter / purifiers. Returns may be subject to a 15% restocking fee.
Make sure your package is packaged carefully, to prevent damage in shipping. You should always insure your package at shipping time, as it's only a few dollars more. If your package is lost or damaged in route to us, the shipper will only deal with you. We can not help. This can take many weeks, and is a real hassle. We reccommend that you use Fed Ex or UPS, who have very easy tracking. If you choose United States Postal Service, please be sure to address your package to P.O. Box 6706 and request to be provided with a 'return receipt'. We do not have general mail delivery and this way you will receive confirmation when the package has been delivered. You are responsible for all shipping charges in returning merchandise. Please enclose a copy of the sales receipt to help expedite things. Returns usually take 1 week to process.
