Climbing and Mountaineering Gear for Rent at The Back Country
Truckee, CA is right off of I-80. Our store is very close to a huge assortment of high quality Sierra Rock Climbing destinations. You can see the world class granite at Donner Pass from our parking lot. Excellent bouldering lies across the street in Donner State Park, and we are only 5 miles from Big Chief. Or head down the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and hit up Bliss State Park Boulders, Eagle Lake Cliff and Buttress, Sugarloaf, Pie Shop, or Lover's Leap. All within an hour's drive. We are a 2 1/2 hour drive from the east entrance of Yosemite, providing access to Tuolumne Meadows. Also home to the best Ice Climbing in the state at Lee Vining. Good luck making it past Bridgeport however without stopping to plan a climb.
We are only 30 minutes from Reno Airport and a 2 hour drive from Sacramento.

We take reservations only one day in advance. It is hard to estimate when the previous person will come back sometimes. Our equipment is "usually' only gone for one day.
$8 - Climbing Shoes We don't get much call for rock shoes, since they all fit different, and don't cost much.
$5 - Plastic mountaineering boots Our friends upstairs at Alpine Skills International Guiding Services have a fleet of plastic double boots. Email us and we can usually get you a pair.
$5 - Adjustable Poles Black Diamond Flicklock
$10 - Avalanche Transceiver We Cannot test avy beacons, and sometimes there are no batteries. We use BCA Trackers. It's best to buy your own beacon
$5 - backpack We have a few day packs, but they get pretty beat up in rental. We stock a HUGE assortment of new packs for sale
$12 - Boot Crampons Snow travel step-in crampons for going to Mt. Shasta or doing East Side Couloir climbs. Not stiff or sharp enough for real ice climbing.
$7 - Ice Axe These are snow travel mountaineering axes, and not suitable for real ice climbing.
