TheBackCountry.net is the online extension of our retail store. We carry all the top brands of backcountry sporting gear from bikes to climbing gear. We welcome you to stop by one of retail stores to introduce yourself, try out some new gear, or get fitted by one of our on staff experts.
We do our best to spread the word about ski swaps, lectures and other local events in Lake Tahoe. If you have information about a particular event and would like to have it listed on our website, please contact us by email.

Mammoth Mountain Bike Park
Mammoth's network of single-track trails adds up to 80 miles, so there's plenty of room for everyone on the mountain. While experts can bound over rocks and ledges to cure their need for speed, beginners will have fun learning to spin their wheels on carefully maintained trails.
Take in great views from dirt trails lined with wildflowers. Rent the equipment you need, get guidance from our friendly bike rangers and collect tons of long-lasting memories.

Pro Night. Saturday October 29th
Get deals, check out gear you need, ask questions from reps, special discounts that night. Take home the order sheet and return requests within one week. Manufacturers and Retailers rely on industry professionals to test OR gear and provide feedback to us, and consumers. If you work full time with the gear we sell, you are eligible for great deals from our shop and our manufacturers. We know you aren’t picking up the pieces of lost and injured skiers to get rich. Ski Patrol, Ski instructors, Search and Rescue A Team Members, Fire Department, and Sherrif’s Department full-timers are invited.

Location Sugar Bowl Ski Area, Mt. Judah Parking lot next to the lift. Dates to be announced on this page as soon as they are known. It’s getting harder to find this gear in demo fleets, with the rising prices of the gear, and relatively light demand. This is your chance to try before you buy! Discounts offered on same day purchases at our store.

Backcountry Gear Swap. Friday November 25th The day after Thanksgiving
Sell your used gear. Donate 10% of sales to Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue. We donate 10% of our store sales for that day too. Tahoe City Store Parking lot 10am to 2pm. Bring your gear between 7 and 9am that morning. This is a very busy shopping day in Tahoe City, and our store is right on the sidewalk. Bring anything related to cycling, climbing, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, or backpacking.

Wed nights 7pm from mid-Dec to mid-March.
Co-sponsored by The Back Country, Patagonia, and Bar One/Olympic Plaza in Squaw Valley, CA. World renowned climbers and local adventurers share their photos and stories for free. Huge screen and sound, plenty of seating. Meet people who share your backcountry enthusiasm and get inspired to get out there even more.
