We look forward to impressing you with our customer service and bike knowledge. We survive by word of mouth after all. Oh, and learning how to work on your own bike and where to ride it is not a secret held in a vault at our shop....you're in the family when you buy a bike from The BackCountry! Remember when you buy a bike from The BackCountry at MSRP, you get FREE LIFETIME SERVICE. If we repair, adjust, tweak, straighten or lubricate your bike, it's FREE. And usually while you wait. We only charge a nominal labor fee as expected to INSTALL new components or fluid on your bike.

Kona is our main brand, and it's here to stay. Since 1986, Kona bikes has been simply the best in the industry at balancing PRICE, QUALITY, AND PERFORMANCE. This is not a handmade frame like our Ellsworth or Intense, but it sure rides like one. Kona competes with the mainstream bike brands you've been looking at, but leaves the silly "house brand" components outta there. Those parts that say "Specialized", "Bontrager" (Trek), "Coda" (Cannondale), etc are C R A P made overseas to save money. Ask any bike shop mechanic what the good stuff is, and they will all tell you Shimano, Avid, Mavic, FSA, Fox, Rockshox.

Plus, the Kona frames are BOMBER. Many use top shelf scandium aluminum tubing, and all are tested by the best riders in the world. Kona is the most well rounded bike company by a mile. They are very successful and serious in the pro racing scene for XC, Cyclocross, and Downhill - sponsoring the best riders in the world. They also own the dirt jump and ski area DH scene. They make some of the best Freeride videos. They go on bike tours. My rep shows up to 100 mile mt bike events and wins solo, singlespeed. All with a positive and friendly attitude that will startle you. No attitude or BS here. We kind of want everyone to buy a Kona. You'll send your friends to us soon after. Even their kids bikes are great.

Our rental bikes are Kona, as are most of the fleet used by Whistler Ski Area. Enough said? please contact mike@thebackcountry.net for info!

2013 Kona Stinky 2-4 kids Downhill Mountain Bike - MSRP $1699. In stock 4-7-13. We rent this bike too!
There is nothing like this bike. Plush suspension, real hydraulic disc brakes, smooth shifting, and super sturdy and a geometrically correct DH kids frame. My son fell in love with mountain biking after 10 seconds on this bike. It's a little heavy for uphill singletrack, but some kids just love the bike so much they can do it. But with this bike you can teach your 7-12 year old kids how to handle a mountain bike on tricky trails or higher speed. In fact they don't need much coaching with this bike. Think about how tiny their hands are, and then ask yourself why you have them riding old V-brake rigid mountain bikes behind you!
Image

2013 Kona Stuff 2-4 Kid's Mountain Bike $699. Just in 4-7-13
Super beefy 24" wheel quality downhill and dirt jump oriented kids mountain bike like the Stinky 2-4, only for $1000 less and no rear suspension.
Image

2013 Kona Kula 2-4 kids Mountain Bike $999 Just in 4-7-13
Trying to take your kids on mountain bike trails at age 8-12? Get them a good bike and they will be enjoying it and performing SO MUCH BETTER. Most parents won't spend more than $4-500, understandably because the kids outgrow the bike in a year or three. Well how about your child skipping 5 years of learning curve and being able to actually do it for real? That happens on the first ride when you finally get your little ones hydraulic disc brakes, lightweight aluminum frames, and shocks that actually shock. Trust me! What this bike will do for your family mt bike riding is amazing. Sure they can do it on old junk, but they can barey slow the bike down, and certainly not "flowing" down the trail. Each trail ride ride has been an epic that they barley survive with V brakes and plastic shifters. The Kona performance kids mountain bikes have no equal that we have seen.

2011 Kona Tanuki Mountain Bike MSRP $1699 - We have this identical 2011 22" on sale for $1300! email mike@thebackcountry.net
This entry level performance mountain bike will suprise you with very powerful smooth brakes, good brand name parts, and Kona's most modern kick ass frame. It weighs about 33 lbs for a medium and has 6" travel. Show us another bike that really has ALL shimano parts like this one. Shimano is the best by far, especially in the less expensive bikes. Way better than SRAM, Truvativ, Bontrager, Coda, Specialized...We buy this bike for our rental bikes every year. We are convinced there is nothing better for the money on the market.

2012 Kona Shonky Dirt Jumper - MSRP was $1099, NOW ON SALE for $950

2013 Kona Makena 20" wheel kids mountain bike. MSRP $389.Like the larger Kona Hula, this is the only kids bike we bother to stock. Most bike shop quality brands are about the same price and spec, but this is our favorite. We rent them and my kids rode them for a few years. Low standover, brakes are easy to pull, the shocks are soft, and they get your kids on the trail with ease. Throw some fatter bmx knobbie tires on there and your kids will suprise you with their ability to ride some easy singletrack with you in just a few days. For kids about age 6-9

2013 Kona Hula 24" wheel kids mountain bike $439
Ok parents, what's the deal? Most of you are not willing to spend more than 1-200. Meanwhile you spend thousands on your kids ski program, dance lessons, and whatever else. Then you buy them a trashed used bike that has frozen shocks, brakes that are hard to pull even with your adult hands, and shifting that kinda works sometimes. Trust me, your kids will become much better riders, faster, and crash less if you get them a NEW bike. I know they will outgrow it in a short time, but you can sell it for more too. In reality, if you have kids then you know other parents who have kids. You will sell their GOOD bikes that they outgrow in 5 minutes for about half what you paid. Get a kickstand for $10 too - essential!

2011 Kona Nunu Mountain Bike -MSRP $789 Buy our demos for $500
We bought these for a rental fleet hardtails this year. If this is your budget, don't think twice. The Nunu is a lightweight bike with above grade performance for the price. The brakes are excellent and the smooth shifting will suprise you. Rockshox is the best fork manufacturer by FAR over it's competitors Marzocchi and Manitou.

SOLD 2012 Kona Le Le MSRP $2699.99
This is all you need to be 100% competitive with your hard core mt bike friends who spent twice this much on some bling custom bike. Suspension and shifting doesn't get much better if you are a light weight rider. These bikes are REALLY durable. Maintenance free, seriously. We have been riding, renting, and selling these Kona frames for over 10 years and they are SOLID! Lightweight too. This picture is of a 15" and fits women from about 5'3" to 5'6". We know women's bikes. We employee women. My wife is a woman. Half of our customers are women. Call me if you are a woman needing a mountain bike! (I have many other brands too) 530-362-0020

SOLD 2012 Kona Tanuki Supreme MSRP $2799.99 - 17" picturedThis is very similair to the Le Le, and not marketed for women or men specifically. We ordered this 17" for a local customer of ours and were drooling over it. This is a fast and light bike that will smooth out any rough singletrack we know of. No it's not a "freeride whatever" bike. Do you really need that? A Tanuki Supreme will let you be 100% competitive on challenging mountain bike trails of any length, no matter how expensive your friends bikes were. This is a top of the line 5" travel bike with lots of Shimano XT parts for a reasonable price. And Kona's frames last practically forever we must add. No squeak, no maintenance, great up and down performance, no nonsense.

SOLD 2011 Kona Cadabra Mountain Bike 22" - MSRP $3150 - ON SALE $2600! - We have a 19" in stock and a few others sizes are available if you act fast as of 5-20-12 email mike@thebackcountry.net
Unbeatable deal on a bike that is all you need for serious riding. Same bike as the 2012 for $700 less!
Everything you want and need to really hit the backcountry trail scene without robbing a bank. Fox suspension is the best hands down, and the parts kit on this bike is impressive for the money. Plus the 6" travel magic link frames combine the best attributes of both XC racers and DH bikes. If you want one bike, this one kills it.
Image

SOLD 2012 Kona Unit 29er Singlespeed Mountain Bike - MSRP $999. We can also get you the "Big Unit" from Kona with high end components and a front shock (msrp $2799) .
There is nothing like this for the money out there. A quality steel frame to soak up the vibrations, and a really great comfortable layout. You kinda have to sit over one of the bikes to appreciate it. Many of our employees have owned and loved their Kona Unit singlespeed bikes. Now most people buy 29er's in this category rather than 26" wheels.
