Skied Mt McGee on 1/25/03. Found good winter textured snow on NE slopes. These deceiving gullies are over 3,500 vert right off the highway. Take advantage of the good eastside coverage and ski this roadside attraction, it has been a while since it has been in shape.

Skied McGee today in firm conditions. NE slops were looking bullet proof so I headed to the south facing side searching for corn. Temps were single digit when I headed up but with the sun kicking strong and zero wind, I figured it might still soften with forecast high at 37 degree. Plenty of the south has melted out but there aren't any debris paths like what I found on Victoria yesterday and this would ski well in warmer conditions. So I headed up a few thousand feet with axe and boot crampons and gained the ridge giving a view back down to 395. Believe it or not I found some blower powder from that storm a week ago on the NE aspect where there were a few trees near the ridge. I couldn't make the summit without rock climbing from where I was, so just shy of 10,000 feet I dropped in for the blower which lasted only 300 feet before it was hard pack / ice. Still 3000+ vertical without any guess work shouldn't be missed, especially if it does corn up or when mother nature brings winter back.

I'll post pics if I can figure out how to do that.

awsome, thanks for chiming in! Raises spirits to all when you catch someone's east side report.

we are working (okay, eric) is working around the clock on a whole new website for us that will be the best of what we see on all the social media style high sierra websites. You'll be able to upload pictures of course, and do a lot more.

how to do it now?
1. store your pics somewhere online.
2. copy the URL of each picture into your post
3. Add [img] and [img/] to the front and back

example
http://www.yourhost/yourpic.jpg

[img]http:www.yourhost/yourpic.jpg[/img]

your picture will appear rather than just being a link.

I didn't have a pic of it, but here's a link with a few good shots

Thanks for the posting tip.
Since this doesn't seem to work, here's my picasa album:
https://picasaweb.google.com/matthewyou ... Feb892011#

Good coverage from the dead end of McGee creek road about 100 feet off 395

Image

On the S face of McGee you can see that pure S facing has no snow and the SE facing still holding but it's thin

Image

The ridge looks thinner than other photos I've seen
Image

Again on the S side with some E / SE facing looking good but it's firm right now

Image

And the gratuitous boots on the (near) summit shot looking at Mt. Agee with some really fun looking terrain (need better conditions and a partner, anyone, anyone?)

Image

No shots of me skiing or of my precious turns since I was alone and left no trace.

Nice shots, by the way!

Here's how I'll post one of yours:

Image tags are working ok here... you just need to go to your picasa web page, and on the page for each photo that you want, right click that photo and choose "copy image location" from the right-click menu. If you're on a mac, maybe someone apple-experienced can post their version of this.

Oh I know what went wrong. You were using the address from the top of the page, like the one you would type in to get to that page in your Picasaweb album. You need to right-click the photos themselves, each one, and copy the address that you get from there.
