did the sled-tow thing out fallen leaf rd to lilly lake w/ the intentions of skiing the indian rock chute "hall of the gods" if the conditions were right. they weren't. we skinned up to the bottom of the bowl close to where the chute spills out. we kept thinking that the snow would get better farther up but it didn't look to be happening. everything was wind sheared hardpack w/ some breakable crust thrown in. looking up at the exit of the chute we could see that the snow didn't look any better up to where it doglegs outta sight. we decided to cut our losses and skied back to the sled where we motored back to the church and proceeded to skin up angora peak w/ hopes of protected powder in the n. facing trees. we were not disappointed. the top was kinda wind affected and the very bottom kinda sun crusted but the middle was full of boot deep powder. it was of the heavier/thicker variety but still good skiing.

skied angora peak trees down to fallen leaf lake after work today. some good corn and some slush as expected given the late hour. continuous snow after 10-20 minutes w/ skis on back. road to lilly lake is still blocked by some snow.

A comical morning lead to a stellar day on the middle trident entrance to the hall of gods. The most aesthetic on the far skiers right entrace had a few cm of dust on glare ice, no bueno when you can get perfect windbuff all the way down the other one. Still good snow on the east cirque on protected aspects. I've spent a lot of days staring at the lake from thousands of feet above it, and never before have I seen such a myriad of blues. Exited area just as storm blew over the crystals .

snow conditions and lack of ice may be summed up by the reality that there were only about 4 turns in the entire chute that were NOT powder 8'ed gs turns. tee hee. that was due to getting too excited to surf the walls of the chute. actually, there was one icy ssssssslider of a turn about a third down, below the fin where you can continue in the main line or air into the right side chute. just ski dead tree once a day and you will be totally used to this, so it will present no problemo. as of now, conditions recharge being completed, next round is up for grabs! get it on!
oh, has anyone ever skied that sweet gully that drops off cathedral to fallen leaf, the one that has maybe three mandatory rappels? it looks like a fun adventure of tight steep corn turns, short rap, repeat. let's go!

Went out today, April 9, and skiied the Hall of the Gods chute from the skiiers right entrance and then a second lap down the center entrance. The conditions right now are incredible. No ice at all in the chute and heavy powder that made for some fun slough surfing. The new storms have filled things in top to bottom wall to wall. Go get it now!
Fotos from Ed Rush are pending.

nice timing tucker :P . sltjoe and i skied those 2 lines as well yesterday/sat, though i think we skied em well enough so hopefully we didn't leave anymore steps for ya, a la babycham  . the conditions were so good we skinned back up via tamarack bowl and skied the fallen angel chute on the other side of indian rock in similar conditions. we then skinned across the lilly lake bridge and up cathedral peak and across the south ramp to tallacs summit. originally gunning for the elevater shaft or babycham, we were totally cooked so we just skied n bowl to the hanging snowfield to the central chute in more great but thick pow. then the inevitable breakable crust torture below sweat hill gave our weary legs the final beat down before the wondrously welcome sight of our shuttle car and cold beers on spring creek rd. i may go back after work tomorrow weather permitting for more w/ a gatekeeper who you may have met today.

Strong work tobiasca. I would call the Hall of the Gods, Fallen Angel chute, and then Tallac a true Tour de Force. Maybe in the next week I can actually ski down something without having to follow your tracks :D !
Indeed we met up with the GateKeeper and a fine host he was from showing us the entryways to the chutes to cold beers at the trailhead!

Found some south facing lines on Angora which were relatively smooth,
but pretty bullet proof. At least it was carvable, but was wishing I had toted along my whippet because a fall would not been good.
