Due to all the hype and blah, blah we all hear, I have been as pestimistic as anyone about Burning Man. However, my fiancee is one of those "burner" folks and I hesitatingly agreed to attend this year. I work way too much and see way too many parties while catering all summer long to want to hang out with 30,000+ people. So, I decided that to detox from people, I would need to ride my bike to Burning Man, before actually entering this insane event.

And meanwhile, I would donate the gas money that I saved by riding my bike to www.bikingforabetterworld.com ,and also recruited one of their members, from their Alaska to Argentina trip begining this June, and another friend to join me on the ride. Great local non-profit organzation that will continue to raise money to donate to charities through their biking adventures. Bikers who have an interest in working with a non-profit to benefit our world should really check them out.

Trip logistics: Aprox 175 from Prosser Lake neighborhood in Truckee to Burning Man. 50, 75,50 miles over 3 days. 3 days at Burning Man. I am no longer a pestimist. Good times and unmentionables to be had for all. If you don't like what you see, turn away. Otherwise, it is a pretty damn cool temporay community that is like nothing you will ever experience. Approx 170 miles to get back to Prosser with an 80 mile first day and a lot of hill climbing over the 90 miles we rode the second day. Sun setting as we crossed the Prosser Lake Dam only a couple of miles from home, cold beer and a comfy bed. We rode from Prosser to Stampede, down through Long Valley to Bordertown, 30 miles north on 395 to Dolyle and then northeast above Pyramid Lake through the Smoke Creek Dessert to Girlock. All but about 40 miles are on dirt.
