We are headed there tomorrow for a Fri-Sun outing. will plan to work out the kinks on friday around Virgina lakes and then go for matterhorn on Saturday. any beat on coverage or conidtions would be most appreciated. any suggestions for a sunday tour before heading back to bay are also are welcomed.

although it's a little out of date, it gives some idea about Horse Creek in the Matterhorn direction. I'm sure it'll be worth it once you get to snow line.

as far as snowpack, there is plenty to ski from the car at VA Lakes. black mtn (no face), excelsior, dberg (south gully) all have good lines in. This weekend, its gonna be hot daytime and warm overnight so there is some concern that it will be a mushpot at sunrise--I'd start pre-dawn. I haven't been up Horse Creek lately but I am sure there is still solid pack above 9k--now it's probably a 1.5 hour walk on both ends. Once you're up there, if it gets a freeze overnight, you will not be disappointed. bring your sunscreen!
