The Back Country is fully set up to upgrade your beacon's firmware if you have any of the following. Service is free if you purchased your unit from us, or $15 if not. Drop off and pick up in person, or we can take care of your transceiver by UPS (shipping fee applies). In many cases we can update for you while-you-wait, but call us at least a day ahead to make sure.

Upgradeable beacons:
Mammut: Pulse Barryvox (not the older, red, Barryvox)
Ortovox: 3+, S1+, S1
Pieps: DSP and DSP Advanced

How often should you do this? Yearly is a good idea, not absolutely crucial, but the latest update will always provide the best performance, and a full function test is performed at the same time.

I've updated the post above to show that the older model of Barryvox transceiver is not set up to receive updates. While it is a very modern digital beacon, it's made to just be what it is. Only the Pulse Barryvox, the newer model, has upgradeable firmware.
