A little late, but maybe pertinent for next spring...
English Mountain is the large not-very-timbered mountain you can see as you cross the dam on Jackson Meadows Reservoir. It is to the south of the Res. The ski run can be seen for a split second as you come out of the trees on Jackson Meadows Road, but before you get on the dam. I work and play out this way a bit, and have always wanted to ski this shot, but never found the motivation. This spring my buddy Greg saw this ski run when coming back from camping at Bowman Lake. He was fired up, so away we went on Memorial Day.
We climbed up the dirt/scree to the climbers right of the right cliff. This was mainly to avoid the private property at the bottom, Jackson Lake Ranch. The snow was nice corn! For a month or so it is the only snow you can see in the area.
So it is pretty far out of the way, especially when there's so much closer to Truckee, but it's a nice ski. To sweeten the deal maybe a weekend camping trip, combining it with a road bike ride on Jackson Meadows road or an MTB ride in Grouse Ridge?
