Steve and I drove 12 hours to ski Mt. Hood July 7th 2009.

Yes, we knew it would be dismal conditions for skiing, but we needed a short vacation out of Tahoe and wanted to see some glaciers before they are gone.
Image

Yes, I was strangely already satisfied with our effort after the first few pictures where I get a volcano, flowers, and backcountry ski touring in the frame.
Image

Yes, we should be skinning on snow from the car.
Image

Image

Yes, we practiced roped travel technique even though the snow was rock hard.
Image

Yes, glaciers are beautiful.
Image

Yes, we still have the rop one. No we didn't need it right here.
Image

Yes, that patch of snow up there is the steep part. Actually, that's 2000' of snow above us.
Image

Yes, now we're back in our element.
Image

Yes, we felt we could find our way home if we got socked in.
Image

Yes, the summit is supposedly attainable from this route. No, we weren't about to scramble on ultra loose, sulfur smelling rock for another hour to get there.
Image

This is the normal route to the summit above the ski area.
Image

Yes, we are psyched!
Image

Yes, looks like a whiteout.
Image

Yes, skiing looked descent and the clouds were thinning.
Image

Yes, You're supposed to ski the Wy'East from a lower parking lot below these snow gullies, and get twice the vert we skied.
Image

Yes, there are cracks to negotiate.
Image

Yes, the skiing really was as horendous as this picture shows.
Image

Yes, this is a sign there is rock fall hazard nearby at times.
Image

Yes, those are our tracks. On the slope I eyed from the car saying to myself that we'll walk down.
Image

Yes, we skied through the terrain park with all the young rippers.
Image

YES!

Nice to see two Cagey Veterans getting a bit sandbagged. Also nice to see you posting about it. Did you guys hang in Govie at Steve's Cellar Bar?

I don't know which bar we went to for a burger, but it smelled like 50 years of keg parties and was super gross. Except of course the food was okay actually.
