The BackCountry is an independent ski, bike, and mountain shop located in Truckee, California. In business since 1993, our goal is to provide the best gear, service, and advice in the Tahoe/Truckee area.

We specialize in backcountry (Alpine Touring and Telemark) boot sales and fitting, with all top brands to choose from and multiple master boot fitters on staff. Get your feet fit by someone who tours for turns like you do! Or by someone who also skis hard at the resort! Most of us do both and we understand the need for equipment that works well in both places. We cover everything from heavy duty downhill to performance backcountry touring to super light ski touring.

Our rental department carries all types of bikes from full-suspension mountain bikes to road bikes, basic cruisers, and child trailers. We also rent mountaineering equipment (have you climbed Shasta lately?) and backpacking gear.
